TALK ABOUT LEGAL ASPECTS AND LEGISLATION OF 3D PRINTING
Students of the Master in Professional 3D Printing receive talks on the legal aspects and current regulations on 3D manufacturing.
With the advent of 3D printing and additive manufacturing, we have seen an exponential growth of this technology. Currently, many types of parts can be manufactured in 3D printing, from prosthetics, parts for robots, prototypes and aeronautical parts, to clothing, shoes and even food and firearms.
Learning and training in this technology is not without understanding the legal implications of what can or can not be manufactured. For this reason, our 3D Master’s students have attended a series of lectures on the legal aspects of this technology at the hands of Mario Embid, a lawyer specialized in technology and data privacy.
With the expansion of 3D manufacturing there are legal issues that affect the use of 3D printers and must be adapted through regulations that regulate this technology with so much potential. Topics such as the right to intellectual property, industrial property, the right to image and data protection and the assumption of responsibility for defective or dangerous products are the bases that must be taken into account in 3D Printing from a point of view. legal view.
Many of the 3D designs that are printed are protected by property rights and exclusive use, and of course, can not be used or reproduced without the previous license or authorization of the owner. Given this new technological horizon, we wonder if we are facing a new model of piracy, this time in a form of tangible piracy.
Issues arise as: What regulation regulates 3D printing? Is it illegal to print a patented product in 3D? Who owns CAD designs? Is it illegal to 3D print a creation subject to intellectual property rights? , Who is responsible for defective products in 3d printing?
These and many other legal issues are key if one wants to dedicate professionally to 3D printing, and therefore will be resolved in the 3D printing master.
